CampAtHome

Read this – and see below for how to join a world record attempt… And for our first CampAtHomer!

Inspired by Northumberland Scouts to keep scouting going during The Isolation…

All through April we are inviting scouts to CampAtHome – in the garden, in the sitting room, even in your bedroom, just NOT in your normal bed – and do some other things and we will award you a Night Away.

Unlike Northumberland we have decided to have a special badge for CampAtHome nights away, and we can make this very easily by using the standard nights away badge on the standard Activity Plus background:

How to earn your badge:

  • Pack a bag
  • Build a den at home / pitch a tent in the garden/ hang up a hammock (whatever you can)
  • Sleep in your shelter of choice
  • Build a ‘campfire’ (real or virtual)
  • Take part in a “Scouty activity”
  • Help with cooking a meal
  • MOST IMPORTANTLY……. Each night you participate you must share a creative photo, video,  or other evidence proving participation by uploading onto our CampAtHome WhatsApp group (see below)

A real campfire can be built in your garden, perhaps using a firepit.

A virtual campfire can be some Xmas lights arranged for example in your garden or the middle of the room.

A scout activity is singing around the campfire, making smores, building a camp gadget such as a washing line, and so on.

Cooking for a Night Away is best done outdoors but indoors cooking will be accepted.

Going for a world record

If you CampAtHome on 30 April you will be helping make a world record – but you need to register.

To register,

  • We will register as a group
  • We need to know who will be CampAtHomeing on 30 April so please tell us on the parents’ WhatsApp group – this will encourage others when they see you are taking part!
  • To upload photos and videos use the CampAtHome WhatsApp group – we have sent a link so everyone taking part can join in and share the experience.

A voluntary donation of £1 would be much appreciated to cover the cost of badges.

Our CampAtHome experiences

Sean S at 23rd has test run the CampAtHome scheme by spending a wild and windy night in a tent in his garden…

Sean says:

It was good but I was woke up by foxes. Also very windy.

The foxes were screeching!!!
