How to earn your badge

You will need some equipment for this – a rain gauge, anemometer, and outdoors thermometer. You can find info on making these in our library (see below for link) and if you make a complete set – anemometer, barometer, rain gauge, and wind vane – and you get measurements that will cover craft activities badge too.

  1. Explain how each of these are measured:
  • wind force and direction
  • cloud type and extent
  • temperature
  • pressure
  • rainfall
  • humidity
  1. Record the weather conditions every day for two weeks, or   once a week for three months. Use equipment like a rain gauge or an outdoor thermometer.
  2. Identify different cloud types. Describe how they are formed.
  3. What do ‘warm’ and ‘cold’ air masses in summer and winter do to the typical weather in your area? Describe the effects on land and sea.
